Patient Testimonial - Michael’s Recovery

What is the patient experience like at Advanced Rehab and Sports Center?

ARSC is known for its intensive physical therapy treatments for athletes or any other patients who come in with an injury. In Michael’s case, his injuries were pretty severe, so our physical therapy specialists and doctors at Ortho SA took that into account when coming up with a rehab program for him.

His story is inspiring and just comes to show that physical therapy can provide great healing and results for our patients to get back to doing what they love!

Michael’s Recovery Story

Michael (Patient): “I had a long-standing issue with a torn Achilles due to a bone spur. While dealing with that issue, I ended up tearing my ACL. It spurred the beginning of a very long journey. The pain was immediate. It was an incredible sensation and my knee felt like a pop, felt like I dislocated it, which ended up happening. I tore the ACL and the meniscus at the same time. I didn't know if I'd be able to run again. I didn't know if I'd be able to play again. It was pretty frightening. I went to Ortho San Antonio and saw Dr. Morrey after a couple of weeks of no resolution and the MRI later found out that it's repairable, but it's going to take some work.”

Ricardo Hernandez PT, DPT Clinic Director: “We knew right off the bat that this was going to be a challenging situation for Mike. Any one of those injuries, by themselves, is a huge challenge for our athletes and our patients, let alone having both of them within a couple of months of each other on the same leg. We didn't have any other structures in the lower leg to lean on heavily because he was just coming off of that ACL recon in the knee which tends to add to that challenge a little bit.”

Michael (Patient): “To be able to go in and have doctors of physical therapy like Ricky and Ramesh that both have played the exact sports that I play, but also know the exact protocol on what the doctors are requesting and what I would need to be able to do to get back to my specific sport is incredible. I never in a million years thought that I'd be taking groundball practice inside of a therapy office but sure enough, if it's for my rehab, that's what these doctors will do. That union between the therapy and the doctor's office is incredible and expedites information. The rehab has been a little intensive. I like to make the joke that there are no easy days and they will tailor your specific workout and your rehab to that goal.”

Ricardo Hernandez PT, DPT Clinic Director: “Seeing him improve and seeing him doing these things, doing these sports-specific activities here in the clinic has been nothing short of amazing. It's been really awesome seeing him rise to the challenge, pick up a softball again, and start throwing, swinging, cutting, and jogging. I can't speak highly enough of the instructions that are given, the exercises that are worked on, and the intensive labor that's done at the therapy office because without it I wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing today.”
